Product Description

Product Description

Rosemary Woodhouse and her struggling actor husband Guy move into the Bramford, an old New York City apartment building with an ominous reputation and only elderly residents. Neighbours Roman and Minnie Castavet soon come nosing around to welcome the Woodhouses to the building; despite Rosemary's reservations about their eccentricity and the weird noises that she keeps hearing, her husband starts spending time with them. Shortly after Guy lands a plum Broadway role, Rosemary becomes pregnant and the Castavets start taking a special interest in her welfare, and as the sickened Rosemary becomes increasingly isolated, she begins to suspect that the Castavets' circle is not what it seems...

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, a modern classic......, 21 Sep 2006
Having seen the movie, and enjoyed it, I gave the book a go. Despite being written 40 years ago now, it still has the feel of a contemporary book. Because of the claustrophic setting of the building, in which a lot of the action takes place, the real world doesn't impinge much.
Ira Levin writes in a nice, easy to read style, which makes you want to read more and more every time you finish a chapter. I won't give much away about the plot, just to say that the year 1966, in which it is set, is very relevant, and the book will make you wonder if the mundane things around you are quite as mundane as they seem!!
Well written, great storyline, good characters (although I found Rosemary to be a little too dumb at times), and a book that will make you think a little. Worth picking up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, 12 Jul 2007

This review is from: Rosemary's Baby (Paperback)
I really liked this book, and the afterword that Ira Levin left at the end. What I really thought was cool was the fact that the book presents the story almost as if it were about any other topic - not witchcraft. And everything in the plot is cleverly glued together. The ending, I thought was slightly abrupt and a little strange, but the reader will get the message about Rosemary. Just buy the book!
